Our year 3 and 4 pupils have been visiting the Roman fort of Segedunum this week exploring and discovering what life would have been like when it was the ‘strong fort’ at the end of Hardian’s wall. Standing for 300 years, it would have housed up to 600 Roman soldiers. The visit included looking round the site to see the layout of the fort, viewing artifacts such as skulls, jewellery and weapons. Discovering how arches were made from rocks and even having a go at training to be a Roman soldier by using the spears and, of course, armour to protect themselves.
Segedunum is always a favourite place to visit.
