School Meals
We work with Chartwells for your children’s school dinners. Chartwells believe that the key to fuelling young minds comes from understanding both what they need and what they enjoy, which is why they develop nutritious and delicious food that pupils love, alongside helping to ensure a healthy body and mind. Their passionate culinary experts work closely with us to ensure every child receives healthy food, perfectly suited to meet their needs and dietary requirements. To inform us and Chartwells of a change in dietary need, please complete a dietary request form either by collecting from the office or on the downloadable forms page.
The current meal price is £2.81. From 1st June 2025 the price will increase to £2.95.
The current three week cycle menu is: Red Rose Primary School Spring – Summer 2025
Packed Lunches
If preferred, children can bring a packed lunch to school. This is eaten in the dining hall at the same time as the meals are served. Packed lunches should be brought in a named lunch box. If children bring a packed lunch, drinking water is freely available on the table. You can read our packed lunch policy here.
Allergens
We have several children in school with severe allergic reactions to certain foods. For this reason no products containing the following ingredients should be brought into school:
- eggs where they remain in their original form e.g. scotch eggs, egg mayonnaise, hard boiled eggs
- any type of nut including nut spreads e.g. nutella
- seeds e.g. sesame seeds

Milk
The school is part of the ‘Cool Milk for Schools’ scheme, where milk is provided, if required, to children in all classes. Children under 5 years are entitled to a carton of milk free, which is delivered fresh to school each day and stored in the refrigerator until morning break time. Once a child is 5 years old the milk can be bought at a cost approx £18 a term. This is ordered direct from Cool Milk for School. The school handles none of the money or the ordering arrangements for the milk.
To register your child for milk or to simply pay your Cool Milk account please visit the Cool Milk website.
Snacks
Nuts, sweets and chewing gum are not allowed in school. If children require a snack at break times, then healthy options such as easily peeled fruit are encouraged. Our school takes part in the Free Fruit Scheme. Each infant child is offered a piece of fresh fruit every day.
