Welcome to the New Nursery at Red Rose Primary School

Thank you for your interest in our brand-new Nursery, opening in September 2026. This exciting addition to Red Rose will provide a nurturing, stimulating, and inspiring environment tailored specifically for children aged 3 to 4 years.

At our Nursery, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We focus heavily on the three “Prime Areas” because they are the essential building blocks for everything your child will learn in the future.

Here is what that looks like in action:

1. Communication & Language

• What it is: Learning to listen, follow instructions, and express thoughts and feelings.
• At Red Rose: We spend our days storytelling, singing, and having meaningful conversations. This builds the vocabulary your child needs to become a confident reader and writer later on.

2. Physical Development

• What it is: Building strength, coordination, and spatial awareness.
• At Red Rose: Whether it’s climbing in our Forest School or playing in our purpose built outdoor area to develop gross motor skills or using tweezers and paintbrushes to develop fine motor skills, we are helping your child develop the physical stamina and “finger strength” they need to eventually hold a pencil and sit comfortably at a desk.

3. Personal, Social & Emotional Development (PSED)

• What it is: Making friends, managing big feelings, and becoming independent.
• At Red Rose: We support children as they learn to share, take turns, and understand their emotions. A happy, confident child who feels safe is a child who is ready to learn!

The Red Rose Way: By getting these three areas right, we ensure your child has the solid foundation they need to dive into reading, writing, and maths when they are ready.

Flexible Sessions
We offer both 15 and 30-hour places, with the option to increase hours (subject to availability).

Our 30 hour offer is

Monday to Thursday: 8:45am to 3:00pm
Friday: 8:45am to 1:45pm
Option of an additional 1.25 hours paid top up until 3:00pm on Fridays (£7.00)

Children will need to bring a packed lunch or pay for a school meal (£3.08)

A Supportive Transition Programme

We understand that starting nursery is a big milestone for both children and parents. To ensure every child feels safe, happy, and “known” from day one, we have a comprehensive transition programme in place, including:

• Staggered Start Dates: Allowing children to settle in small groups.

• Stay-and-Play Sessions: Opportunities for you and your child to explore the space together before the term begins.

• Home-School Links: A chance for our team to learn about your child’s unique interests and needs before they start.

Flexible Hours and Wraparound Care

We offer both 15 and 30-hour places (subject to availability). To support working families, we are also delighted to offer wraparound care in conjunction with our provider:
Mains House@Red Rose:

• Breakfast Club: Run by Red Rose staff from 8:00 am each morning (£4 per session).
• After School Club: Run by Mains House  until 6:00 pm (prices until 5:00 pm or 6:00 pm are available from Mains House upon request).
• Financial Support: Parents can use the government’s Tax-Free Childcare scheme to help cover these costs.

Nursery School Uniform

At Red Rose Primary School, we believe that the wearing of uniform plays a valuable role in contributing to the ethos of our school and setting an appropriate tone.  Our children wear their uniform with pride, promoting equality and a sense of community.  We ask that everyone; children, parents and carers help to ensure that the school dress code is always observed.

• red jumper or cardigan
• white or red polo shirt
• black unbranded leggings, tracksuit bottoms  OR
• black / grey skirt / trousers / school shorts / red checked dress (Summer)
  
  Footwear
• Plain black leather or leather style shoes which can be polished
• Trainers are not encouraged

PE Kit

• plain white T-shirt
• black/navy shorts (no logos)
• plimsolls or trainers
• plain black/navy leggings or tracksuit bottoms for outdoor PE (no logos)
• Grey unbranded or Red Rose PE hoodie (optional)

Nursery children will have PE on a Friday
They should come dressed in the PE kit on this day.

Jewellery

• Jewellery should not be worn for school for health and safety reasons and is actively discouraged.
• If necessary, a small pair of plain studs can be worn when ears are first pierced but should be removed as soon as possible and micropore tape should be provided by parents to cover earrings during the school day.
• A watch may be worn
• Nail varnish should not be worn for school.

Hairstyles

• Haircuts should not be less that a grade ‘one’
• Hair should not be coloured
• No extreme hairstyles or tramlines are allowed.

Purchase of Uniform

• Generic uniform can be purchased from any high street school uniform retailer.
• We have partnered with The School Outfit to provide good quality school uniform with our logo.  The uniform can be purchased at any time throughout the year – please see the link below taking you directly to their website.

• We have a range of good quality, preloved uniform in school which is available free of charge. Please ask at the office for further information or click on this link

All clothing marked with a name-tape or similar
Please label your child’s possessions including shoes and socks to avoid confusion and upset when property is lost.

Uniform Policy

Nursery Viewings

We are currently working with leading EYFS practitioners in the region to plan and prepare our new provision. While internal building work will be completed over the summer holidays—meaning the room will not be a “working nursery” until September—we would love to meet you and show you around. 

Parents are warmly invited to contact the school office to arrange an individual tour. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the school, meet our team, and ask any questions you may have.
