Application for a Leave of Absence

The Government has amended regulations for taking holidays in term time and these new regulations come into effect from August 2024.

Parents must request permission in advance from school for leave of absence for any reason, including holidays.

Headteachers cannot grant leave during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances and cannot grant permission retrospectively.

Generally, a need or desire for a holiday or other absence for the purpose of leisure and recreation would not be an exceptional circumstance.

Parents can be fined for taking their child on holiday during term time without consent from the school. Please find more details on the Durham County Council website.

Please contact the school if you wish to discuss this with the Headteacher.

The professional medical evidence can be a doctor, dietitian note or letter, official medical care plan or professional medical document referencing diet diagnosis. Alternatively, the Medical Request Form can be signed by a medical professional.

Free School Meal Entitlement Check

Families who receive certain benefits may be eligible for free school meals. Your child is eligible for free school meals if you’re in receipt of one of the following benefits:

• Universal Credit with an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400.
• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Child Tax Credit, provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income, as assessed by HMRC that does not exceed £16,190
• Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit
• Where a parent is entitled to Working Tax Credit run-on (the payment someone receives for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
• Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

Registering for free meals could also raise an extra £1,480 for your child’s primary school, to fund valuable support like extra tuition, additional teaching staff or after school activities.
This additional money is available from central government for every child whose parent is receiving one of the benefits listed above.

To check if your child is eligible, we need information about you and your child.

Please use the FSM Application form from and return to school office.
