Today was National Poetry Day and we celebrated it through lots of different activities all themed around ‘Play’.
Our younger pupils were either practising their Autumnal poem ready for our Harvest Festivals next week or they were inspired to do some skipping after reading ‘The Skipping Poem’ from a book ‘Poems Out Loud’.
Some classes read Word Play by Michaela Morgan and then made up their own word plays.
Is a jellyfish a fish made out of jelly?
Is a butterfly a fly covered in butter?
Is a football a ball made out of feet?
Is wrapping paper just paper that likes to rap?
And many many more!
Some pupils read a poem called Skateboarding by Joseph Coelho and recorded themselves reading it, some even with percussion instruments, and looked at the connections between skateboarding and surfing in the words that were used.
Poetry is excellent and it was great celebrating this art form.
