By embedding enterprise and careers learning into our broad curriculum, we help pupils link their classroom learning to the wider world, raise their ambitions, and understand that their future possibilities are endless.

Why Careers Education Matters at Primary Age

Research shows that children often form gender stereotypes and limits on their ambitions by the age of seven. Introducing pupils to a wide range of roles early in their school journey is vital to challenging these early perceptions.

Challenging Stereotypes: Showing Red Rose pupils that anyone, regardless of gender or background, can excel in STEM, creative arts, trade, or leadership roles.
Linking Learning to Life: Helping pupils understand why they learn Maths, English, Science, Computing and more by connecting everyday classroom skills directly to real-world professions.
Broadening Horizons: Exposing children to emerging industries and non-traditional careers they might not otherwise encounter.

Structured Careers Curriculum with Unifrog

To ensure our careers education is progressive and continuous throughout every year group, Red Rose Primary School uses the Unifrog platform to deliver dedicated, half-termly career lessons. Unifrog provides a structured, age-appropriate framework that helps pupils explore the world of work step-by-step as they move through the school, from Reception to Year Six. Through interactive activities, discussions, and reflection, children build a personal portfolio of skills and insights that grow alongside them.

Our Unifrog curriculum is built around distinct learning threads, including self-discovery, understanding different workplace sectors, future skills, and workplace equality. Each half term, pupils focus on a new thread, allowing them to examine how personal interests connect to real-world roles, break down traditional career stereotypes, and understand the essential competencies needed for the modern workplace. By embedding these regular checkpoints into our school routine, we ensure that every child leaves Red Rose Primary School with high aspirations, a clear understanding of their strengths, and a broad perspective on their future possibilities.

Enterprise & Aspirations

Through practical, hands-on experiences, our pupils get to step directly into the shoes of real entrepreneurs and innovators.

In Year 6, pupils take part in our flagship Enterprise Week. Working in collaborative teams, children design, market, and sell real products, such as baked treats, handmade crafts, and fresh smoothies. The project challenges pupils to manage production budgets, craft promotional campaigns, and calculate profit margins at our enterprise stall, teaching them real-world business acumen and financial confidence.

We take great pride in our community links across Chester-le-Street and the wider region, collaborating with innovative organisations to give our pupils first-hand insight into modern technology and industry.
